Name of creator
The Interprovincial Home for Young Women, located in Coverdale, Albert County, New Brunswick, was established under provisions of Chapter 18 of Acts of Assembly 13 George V, 1923. It was erected in 1926 through the combined efforts of the Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Methodist Churches in the Maritime Provinces. The mandate of this home was the reformation and training of Protestant women who might be committed to it by judges, magistrates or justices of the peace throughout the Maritime Provinces. The home was maintained by designated contributions from the Anglican, Baptist, and United Churches; by per capita grants paid by cities, towns, and municipalities for women committed from their respective constituencies, supplemented by Provincial aid in the case of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia; and by donations from the general public.
The Interprovincial Home for Young Women was governed by a Board composed of equal representation from each of the cooperating churches. An Executive of the Board of Governors, consisting of its officers and two members from each Church body, met in regular session and transacted the routine business connected with the institution. The Interprovincial Home for Young Women continued to operate until at least 1980.
