Né à Montréal le 16 mars 1689, Jean-Baptiste Adhémar dit Saint-Martin est le fils de Antoine Adhémar dit Saint-Martin (1634-1714), notaire royal, et de Michelle Cusson (1666-?). Il est greffier de Montréal, du 14 juin 1714 à 1718, et notaire royal, du 13 mai 1714 au 19 décembre 1754. Il épouse en premières noces, à Montréal, le 20 mai 1715, Catherine Lepailleur (1689-?), fille du notaire Michel Lepailleur (1663-?) et de Catherine-Gertrude Jérémie (1664-1744), et, en secondes noces, à Montréal, le 7 janvier 1733, Catherine Moreau (1696-?), fille de Pierre Moreau (1639-1727) et de Madeleine Lemyre (1660-?). De cette union naissent 3 enfants. Il meurt à Montréal le 19 décembre 1754 à l'âge de 65 ans.
