Biographical history

Joan Skogan is an author. She was born in Comox on September 29, 1945 and received a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia. Joan has worked as a journalist, fisheries observer and has taught adult education. In 1983 her book, 'Skeena A River Remembered,' based on interviews with people who had lived and worked in the fishing industry on the Skeena River, was published by British Columbia Packers Ltd.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of audio cassettes of interviews conducted by Joan Skogan for her book, Skeena A River Remembered, published in 1983 by British Columbia Packers Limited. The interviews took place between 1981 and 1982. The people interviewed on the tapes are: Frank Alexcee, John Atchison, Alec Blyth, Howie Chambers, Danny Chung, Fred Edgar, Alan Hale, J. Lawson, Dick Nelson, Maurice Nyce, Harry Robins, Myrtle Robinson, Bill Ross, Gene Simpson, Hazel Stewart, Jack and Mitsue Tasaka, Dorothy Young. There are also copies of audio cassettes featuring Wiggs O'Neill recorded in 1961 and Skeena a River of Clouds No. 1977-1, People in Landscape - Educational Series.
