Biographical history

Born in Montreal to parents who emigrated to Canada ca 1900, John Lusk graduated from the High School of Montreal in 1938. Following several years in the workforce as an employee of Shell Canada Ltd. in the Montreal East Refinery Laboratory, he obtained his BSc from Sir George Williams University in 1952. In 1954 he was transferred to Products Application, Head Office, Toronto, then to Vancouver and finally back to Montreal where he retired in 1976. By the early 1980s, he had moved to Lac Sir John, Quebec but found the winters difficult, finally settling in Lachute ca 1990. While it was his father who inspired him to pursue studies and a career in the sciences, it was his grandfather who encouraged his interest in history. Frequent trips to historic sites on the island of Montreal by tramway with all five grandchildren in tow laid the groundwork for his later fascination for the history of Argenteuil County. While offering his services as amateur photographer to Louise Johnson who was engaged in writing the history of the Anglican Church in Lakefield, Quebec he was encouraged to join the Historical Society of Argenteuil County in 1985 serving as President from 1988-89. During his tenure he undertook the cataloguing of the museum?s library collection, organized an auction of 2000 books deemed beyond the scope of the Historical Society's collections mandate, secured the papers of Hyacinthe Lambart and assisted Serge Carrière in the preparation of the MRC's Inventory of Heritage Buildings in Argenteuil County. While still active in the HSAC, he now contributes much of his time and energy to the restoration of the Macdonnel-Williamson House across the Ottawa River in Pointe Fortune, Quebec.
