Biographical history

Kenneth (Ken) McKenzie Lehman was born in North Bay, Ontario on June 22, 1940 to Trevor and Eileen Lehman. Shortly before his third birthday, Ken's father died. In 1951, Eileen married Lawrence Haley and the family moved to Whitby to be closer to Lawrence's work.

Ken and his father attended many hockey games together, including the local Whitby Dunlops, of which he attended every home game during the 1957-58 season. In 1957, they went to see the Whitby Dunlops play the Soviet national team at Maple Leaf Gardens. Also a keen artist, Ken presented the Whitby Dunlops with individual colour portraits of each team member prior to their departure to Oslo, Norway for the World Ice Hockey Championships.

Ken attended the Ontario College of Art and Design and after graduating in 1962, he worked as art director for CHEX Television in Peterborough. He later moved to London to work for CFPL-TV. Ken currently lives in London with his wife and in 2011 he completed a booked called "The Legendary Whitby Dunlops", which includes original sketches, cartoons, photographs, and is based on scrapbooks he created for the Whitby Dunlops.

Custodial history

In 1978 Ken Lehman donated the scrapbooks to the Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre in London, ON. They were then transferred to the Whitby Archives.
