The Kootenay Lake Archives is administered by the Kootenay Lake Historical Society. The society was established and began acquiring archival material in 1957. The Archives was formally established in 1987 to acquire and make accessible archives of significance to Kaslo and immediate area.

The Archives holds material pertaining to the history of Kaslo and surrounding areas, early mines, the City of Kaslo records (1893-1958) including correspondence and administrative records, Kootenay Lake sternwheelers (in particular the S.S. Moyie), and the Archives of the Langham Japanese Canadian Project. The collection includes over 3,000 photographs, maps and plans, original newspapers, records of local organizations, and some audio and video tapes. Holdings include information on Kaslo-area schools, the 54th Kootenay Battalion, ceremonies and celebrations in Kaslo (1892-present), forestry, fruit cultivation, some personal papers, and some records of local business.
