Custodial history

Dr. Abram Hoffer donated these records to the Saskatoon office, Saskatchewan Archives, in 1 accession in 2003: S2003-12 (March 10, 2003).

Scope and content

This series contains correspondence between Dr. Abram Hoffer and lay people (rather than physicians, institutions, etc.). It includes correspondence with Hoffer in his various roles, including founder of Schizophrenics Anonymous and related to the Huxley Institute for Biosocial Research. The largest portion of the series is made up of correspondence with individuals (and their friends and family) with physical and mental health problems, including schizophrenia, allergies, cancer, etc. Lay people routinely contacted Hoffer for treatment advice or for referrals to other physicians or psychiatrists. In most cases, these lay people are particularly interested in Hoffer's advice related to orthomolecular treatments.
