Biographical history
Lawrence Cuming, 1880-1969, was born in London, England, and emigrated to Canada in 1906. He travelled across the country, stopping and working in various places including Edmonton, Alberta, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Calgary, Alberta before settling in Victoria, British Columbia in 1908. There he worked in construction and as a part-time photographer. From 1910 until his retirement in 1947 he worked in the credit department of the BC Electric Company. In 1912 he married Nellie Tryphena Watts, 1878-1968, and they had two daughters, Stella Tryphena (McCandless), 1916-2012, and Faith Elizabeth (MacDonald), 1917-2003.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of Lawrence Cuming's memoirs (written in 1968) of his arrival in Canada and early experiences in the country. Includes descriptions of cutting ice on the Bow River in Calgary, and rescuing a horse which had gone through the ice.
