Biographical history
The first local division of the Sons of Temperance in Nova Scotia was established in 1847 at Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. In 1848 the Grand Division of the Sons of Temperance was organized in Nova Scotia, by which time 13 subordinate divisions had been established. The organization was founded mainly to educate the public on the benefits of the abstinence from alcohol and worked toward social reform via prohibition. The Linden Division, no. 675, of the Sons of Temperance was established at Linden, Cumberland County, N.S. circa 1880.
