Biographical history

Records of liquor offences such as selling liquor without a license and keeping liquor for sale in Saint John City and County during the period 1913-1917 and possibly both before and after this time. Liquor inspectors were retained for Lancaster and Simonds parishes as well as for St. Martins. E.J. Neve (d. 1929) was the Chief Inspector for Lancaster and Simonds while Edwin Lewis was the sub-inspector for St. Martins, N.B. W.H. Allingham (d. 10 June 1927) was the Stipendary Magistrate for Lancaster and Simonds parishes and W.H. Moran held the same position in St. Martins.

The fonds consists of 1 volume of records of liquor offences which occurred in the City and County of Saint John, New Brunswick during the period 1913-1917. The offences took place in the parishes of Lancaster, Simonds, and St. Martins. Information includes names of offenders, the stipendary magistrates, and the chief inspectors as well as the nature of the offence, the fines levied and the parish. There are several repeat offenders in these records. Offences included keeping liquor for sale or barter and selling liquor without a license.
