Notice biographique
Lucile MacKay was born in 1892 to Adam MacKay and Annie Urquhart MacKay. Her father was a Klondike Gold Rush stampeder who travelled to Dawson City in 1898. Lucile and her mother arrived the following summer. The family spent their first winter on Last Chance Creek and moved to town the summer of 1900. At the age of 18, Lucile became engaged to a local miner, William Alexander Aiken MacMillan. She moved to Vancouver and took a stenographer's course and worked in the city for several years. After the couple married they returned to Dawson City and Mr. MacMillan worked for the Yukon Consolidated Gold Corporation (YCGC). They lived at Bear Creek, the YCGC compound, and raised four children, Mary, Alan, Kathleen and Patrick. In 1931, YCGC began cutting back its operations and the MacMillans moved to Vancouver. Lucile's husband died in 1936 and she married a longtime family friend, James (Jimmy) Easton Hooker in 1939. Mrs. Hooker was the oldest member of the Vancouver Yukoners' Association and she held the title of Honorary Vice-president until her death in 1999.
