Hon. Daniel MacDonald, KC, born Dec 22 1828 was a son of the late Dr Alexander MacDonald and Charlotte Harrinton of Antigonish. He was called to the Bar in 1851 and was elected three times to the legislature, first in 1867. Appointed to the Executive Council in 1872, he was Commissioner of Public Works and Mines until 1875, when he was appointed Attorney General. He retired from Office and public life one year later. He also served in his early days as County Treasurer. In 1898 he was appointed to the Dominion Government's commissioner to investigate charges against the officials of the Dorchester Penitentary. He died at Antigonish July 1911. When his will was probated, the value of his estate was estimated at $88,000.
