John S. Wilson family fonds

The fonds consists of records from when E. John Wilson was Lieutenant for the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps "Captain Cook" in Prince Rupert. It also includes photographs, correspondence, and ephemera from John S. Wilson. Included from the sea cadet corps is a record book of "firing guns competition" from 1943-1945, the 1945 night order book, strength reports, correspondence, parade and training schedules, division lists, nominal roll lists, a course outline for Rifle Coaching, the October 1946 issue of Wescoast Wardroom News, and the April 1946 issue of The Navy League of Canada Sea Cadet Log . The photographs are of family and friends, staff and students at Borden Street and Booth Schools, May Queen candidates, Carlisle and Claxton canneries, sea cadets, and the Wilson Home at 416 Dunsmuir Street.

The fonds consists of photographs and textual records during the Second World War in Prince Rupert. It includes 73 photographs (1943-1945) of scenes in Port Edward, Prince Rupert, and the surrounding areas, Hagwilget Canyon, , Khatada Lake, and Chicamon Glacier. US Army scenes include an aerial view of Acropolis Hill, Eugene with a bear cub, post theatre, barracks, the day room, a Christmas Party (1944), the administration office, chapels at Port Edward and Prince Rupert, field house, reveille, mail call, U.S. Army Post Softball Team (1943-45), army PX, Military Personnel Office (1945), basketball games, dances, V-J Day parade and speeches at city hall, USO Shows, Ingrid Bergman at USO show. There is also a photograph of Eugene salmon fishing near Port Edward and typed lyrics to a song "Don't Ship Me Out" dedicated to the men of APO 997.

The fonds consists of photographs of early Prince Rupert showing the building of the town site from the first pile driven to build the wharf in 1906, the first grade of the railway in 1908, the first GTP passenger train, and scenes of early Prince Rupert and the surrounding area up until to the 1920s. There are photographs of people in Prince Rupert, including family and colleagues, nurses during WWI, the drydock, planes, parades, boats, steamships, reservoirs, the Skeena River, Ocean Falls, the cold storage plant, football games, picnics, fire trucks, one photograph of native children in Metlakatla, and a logging camp at Alice Arm. It also includes a certificate of appointment from when Ernest was made a Notary Public on September 21, 1909 and a postcard received by Ernest in Prince Rupert in July 1907, mailed from England June 3, 1907.
