History

The M’n’M Outdoor Club was established in Calgary, Alberta in May 1992, with the encouragement of the Calgary City Parks and Recreation department, as a hiking club for seniors. The name is loosely based on the first letters of Monday (the chosen hiking day) and Mountains (a common destination for the group). The first executive consisted of Ken Harding, Millie Wetter, Noella Lamontagne, Marg Tutty, Eileen Brieley, Maureen Hutton, Ann Taylor, Else Holtz and Fran Hintze. The group’s purpose is to improve health and fitness in its members, as well as to promote sociability and enjoyment of nature. Membership is open to those age 55 and older, and is limited to 90 members. All members are required to complete 10 trips per year. Activities now also include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, a Christmas gathering, and a summer BBQ.
