La Montreal East Congregational Church débute comme école du dimanche et rapidement comme communauté religieuse issue de Union Church. En 1866, elle est placée sous l'autorité de la Zion Church. La consécration du temple a lieu le 28 février 1869 sous le nom de Montreal East Contregational Church. La communauté a été prospère jusqu'en 1871. La communauté débute en 1865, sur la ruelle Woodyard à Montréal. En 1866, elle déménage dans un appartement sur la rue Wolfe à Montréal. Très tôt, la nécessité d'un lieu du culte s'impose et la communauté Zion construit un temple à l'intersection des rues Amherst et Craig, aujourd'hui rue Saint-Antoine est
