The class records were found in a house formerly occupied by Norman Bowles by Wayne Fleury. The collected scrapbooks were formerly in the custody of the Royal Canadian Legion, Red Deer Branch No. 35
Scope and content
The fonds includes photographs and correspondence of Mary T. Bowles concerning her volunteer service with the Red Cross in Red Deer; photographs of pupils in schools where Norman Bowles taught; class records of his students (ca. 1947-ca. 1949); news stories on Red Deer submitted to metropolitan newspapers by Norman as a freelance local correspondent (1942-1943); a scrapbook and collected pamphlets and posters on Social Credit and Alberta politics (1935-1943); and scrapbooks on the Red Deer Board of Trade and the Dieppe Raid. Includes historic documents collected by Norman Bowles: township survey map of Twp. 38, Ra. 28 W. of the 4th Meridian (Red Deer area, 1884); copy of the Calgary Tribune (1893); and oblique aerial photographs of Red Deer (1947). Includes an unrelated colour photocopy of a certificate presented to the Martin family of Red Deer whose four sons volunteered for wartime military service (ca. 1945, copied ca. 1996)
