Biographical history
In 1944 the Prince Rupert and District Union Board of Health produced a film to advise members of the region on health issues. That year saw the expansion of the Prince Rupert Health Unit on 2nd Avenue as a full-time service, staffed by a full-time personnel including a doctor and nurses trained in public health. The activities of the unit were overseen by the board, composed of four lay members representing the Prince Rupert City Council and School Board, the village of Terrace and the Provincial Government. The board acted in an advisory and supervisory capacity in the work of the Health Unit. In the 1950s the health unit became the Skeena Health Unit and today the health board is called the Northern Health Authority.
