General note
Tom Innes was the political cartoonist for the Calgary Herald newspaper. Cartoon annotated: The Olympics, Innsbruck;Issue: Possibly one of two issues:;At the time the United States was conducting a Senate Hearing, investigating Soviet Bloc spying. Which may have turned up some evidence against Canada's World Hockey Championship contenders. At this time it came to light that in 1959, Czech authorities prompted the use of "Prague's best looking hookers" against the Canadian team. Wearing them down before their final playoff game against the Czechs, which apparently occured the night before in hotel rooms. A Czech defector supplied this information and noted that they lost the game and hadn't looked quite the same team as the rest of the tournoument. Another issue is that Toller Cranston the Canadian Olympic skater, competing at the time, was critical of Olympic judges. After giving stellar performances and still gaining no medals, he accused certain officials of having a Soviet Bloc voting system, protecting their skaters.
