Historique
Silas Piper was born 26 June 1786 in Madison County, Massachusetts, the son of farmer John Piper. In 1801 he went to live with James Collins of Anson, Mass. to attend school. Two years later he moved to Wiscassett, Mass. to live with and work for his uncle who was a merchant. In 1813, Piper married Rhoda Burgess of Maine. The couple moved to Granville, Nova Scotia in 1817 so that Piper could establish a medical practice. In 1821 they moved again to Bridgetown, N.S. Here Piper continued to practice medicine and also opened a vapour bath. Prior to receiving his MD in 1838, he studied medicine under Dr. Samuel Adams. Piper and his wife had nine children. He died in 1841 at Bridgetown.
