Biographical history

Achille-Oscar Barrette, né en août 1882 à Saint-Colomban de Sillery, est l'un des quatre enfants de Sauveur Barrette et Dilna Bédard. Reçu ingénieur civil en 1908, il travailla à Ville-Marie et Amos avant d'entrer, en 1914, au ministère de la Colonisation comme assistant ingénieur en chef (1914-1937), puis ingénieur en chef (1937-1939). Il passa ensuite au service de la Ville de Québec (1939-1942), puis au ministère fédéral des Travaux publics jusqu'en 1952, année de son décès

Scope and content

Les photos illustrent des ponts de bois : construction, ponceaux, viaducs, ponts couverts dans les comtés d'Abitibi, Arthabaska, Beauce, Bonaventure, Hull, Joliette, Lac Saint-Jean, Portneuf et Saguenay. Des annotations renseignent sur le constructeur, l'année de construction et les dimensions du pont. Quelques vues de bâtiments à Amos ainsi qu'une photo d'un groupe avec Achille-Oscar Barrette complètent le dossier
