This collection consists of two series. The first consists of 1565 photographs and their negatives which constituted Charlottetown's Centennial project entitled "The Island from Cartier to Centennial". The second series contains 91 photographs and their negatives of different public and private buildings throughout Prince Edward Island.

This collection consists of 13 images of Island scenes, landmarks, and individuals. Craswell appears to have been the photographer of most of the images although many are copy prints of earlier photographs, some pre-1900. Item 23.1-13 was taken by William Cumming, a Montague photographer.

Craswell Portrait Studio fonds

The fonds contains the negatives of the business from the period from 1924 until 1965. The bulk of these are wedding and portrait negatives but also included are groups such as graduation classes, city council, sports and other organized groups and some images of buildings and activities. Some additional negatives (including glass plates) may date from the operations of the Bayer Studio and those in the 1980s appear to have been taken by Gordon Craswell. Also included are a small quantity of contact prints, especially for the scenic views taken in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Three reels of 16mm motion picture film include a wedding and the installation of the Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Charlottetown. Textual material consists primarily of letters of appreciation which were originally housed in a scrapbook.

The collection consists of a photographic view series containing nine images of Prince Edward Island circa 1920. The majority of the images depict scenes in Charlottetown including: St. Dunstans Cathedral; Prince of Wales College; Market House and Government Buildings; Queen Street; Victoria Hotel; and the Railway Station. Other images include the car ferry "Prince Edward Island" and ice breaker "Northumberland Strait," as well as a fishing scene in an unidentified area of PEI.

The fonds consists of four items. Ledger "C" has records of customer accounts of blacksmith John A. from 1887-1910. There is a reference on p.608 to ledger "D". Place names include St. Eleanors, Linkletter, Miscouche, Muddy Creek, Port Hill, Belmont, and Tyne Valley. A sampling of customers would be R.T. Holman, Brace McKay & Co., Benjamin Tanton, Thomas Compton, Edgar Craswell, Charles Green, Henry Scales, and Fulton Ramsay. Loose papers from the ledger include statements prepared for some customers The second item is a Bible given to Verner in 1914 by Jane Turpel (1853-1931), his mother's sister who lived in Halifax. Two inscriptions show unknown connections to Richard and Marie Jackson 1716 and Andrew and Rebecca Montgomery 1723. The third item is a large album of 193 postcards collected by Margaret between 1906-1910, some of them depicting P.E.I. buildings and scenery. A small snapshot shows Margaret and Frank Linkletter in 1955 with neighbours.

This collection consists of 338 photographs, 84 glass plate lantern slides, 1 print, and 1 carte-de-visite containing four images as well as their negatives. These photographs depict various Prince Edward Island subjects including prominent citizens, athletic teams, historic landmarks, events, public and commercial buildings, private dwellings, modes of transportation, landscapes, and cityscapes. Some of the images are not identified. Several of the photographs are oversized and are noted in the item listing.
