Biographical history
George Albert Rayner was born on January 29, 1919 in Carievale, Saskatchewan to Jeremiah "William" and Gertrude Hannah (Rawson) Rayner. His family included sisters Mildred, Laura, Marion, Marjorie, Jean and Norma. He was educated at Workman School District No.146, where he completed tenth grade.
Rayner worked on the family farm until he joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment in 1942. He was injured while on duty in England and returned to Canada in 1944. He continued to serve in the Army until his discharge in 1946. He continued to farm until 1948 when he relocated to Regina. In April 1949, he gained employment with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in its stationery and records department.
After several years of courtship and engagement, Rayner married Jessie Marian Halkyard of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, on November 2, 1949. They resided in Regina where he continued his employment with the Wheat Pool, eventually rising to the position of department supervisor. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Zion United Church, and enjoyed bowling and fishing. Rayner died in Regina on August 4, 1968.

Biographical history
Jessie Marian Halkyard was born on April 10, 1917 near Carnduff, Saskatchewan to Edward and Margaret Ellen (Crothers) Halkyard. Her family included elder sister Agnes and younger brothers Albert, Harry, Leonard and
Ralph. A brother, George, died in 1911. Halkyard received her education at Goschen School District No. 662 and Lilac School District No. 2114. She remained at home after completing her education and after her mother's death in 1937, helped her father run the home and raise her brothers. She continued to help at home when her brothers Albert and Harry served in the Second World War.
After several years of courtship and engagement, Jessie Halkyard married George Albert Rayner, originally from Carievale, Saskatchewan, on November 2, 1949 in Carnduff. After their wedding, they resided in Regina where George Rayner was employed by the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. After George's death in 1968, Jessie remained in Regina. She was a competitive curler, enjoyed travel and was a member of Zion United Church. Jessie Rayner died in Regina on April 19, 2010.

Leah Spafford, bookseller, purchased these records and subsequently donated them to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives in one accession in 2012: 2012-038 (February 8, 2012).
Scope and content
This fonds consists of records created, accumulated and used primarily by George Rayner of Carievale, Saskatchewan and Jessie Halkyard (later Rayner) of Carnduff, Saskatchewan. The fonds includes correspondence written between Rayner and Halkyard during their courtship and engagement (1942-1949), military records belonging to Rayner during his service in the Second World War, and correspondence and other records accumulated during the Rayners' married life. It also includes records of members of the Halkyard and Rayner families. Subject matter of the photographs includes: portraits, likely of members of the Rayner and Halkyard families; a railway bridge at Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, prairie landscape with a townsite in the distance; an industrial site; a parade; the Calgary Zoo; and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool head office in Regina, Saskatchewan and its surrounding businesses.
