Biographical history

Prior to 1941, athletic team photographs were displayed in the 2nd University Residence, but they were destroyed when the residence burned in December 1941.

In an effort to restore and preserve these records, "replacement" team photographs were collected and historical notes were prepared by Robert C. Read. They were subsequently delivered to Dick and Ron Smith, sons of photographer Edgar P. Smith, Sackville, New Brunswick. They printed the team historical notes then mounted and framed the items. If Mr. Read was unable to locate a photograph and if the original negative of the team was in the Smith's Studio files, a duplicate print was produced.

Where Mr. Read was unable to locate a team photograph, the team title and historical notes only were framed and added to the display.

Custodial history

The photographs were first displayed in the Common Room of Allison Gardens, and later in the new Athletic Center lecture rooms. Many of the items included in this inventory are presently on display at the athletic Center. The remainder were deposited in the Mount Allison University Archives on 2 September 1987.

There is evidence that a few of the original framed items were replaced by ones in better physical condition after the Read donation of 1954, resulting in two photographs of the same team.
