The records in the Giles H. Rowswell family fonds were deposited at the Provincial Archives of Alberta over the course of several years. The Provincial Museum of Alberta transferred the first accession in 1965. The second accession of records to arrive the same year belonged to a larger collection donated to the Provincial Museum of Alberta. Following the sale of the homestead, Blanche Rowswell gave the material to her two sons, Gordon Rowswell and Ron Rowswell. In 1967 Ron Rowswell donated two more accessions to the archives. In 1991, Alyce Rowswell Schroeder donated additional material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of business and legal papers concerning homestead operations, personal correspondence, financial records and photographs. It also includes records documenting the activities of Dr. Karl Adolph Clark while he worked for the Industrial Research Department at the University of Alberta. The fonds also contains personal records of Giles and Blanche Rowswell including certificates, and correspondence, as well as a certificate commemorating Alyce Rowswell Schroeder's contribution to Alberta's history. The Fonds divides into the following series: Business accounts and legal papers; Correspondence; Miscellaneous personal items; Printed material; Photographs; and Dr. K.A. Clark records.

Includes ca. 100 photographs, 17 postcards, 15 blueprints, 2 maps and 1 poster. Ink is beginning to fade on some of the textual records and/or is bleeding through the papers.

Arrangement
The records have been maintained in the order in which they were received. Alyce Rowswell Schroeder, Early Pioneers (Alberta: Michael Haynes and Sheila Adams, 1990) was removed from the material and added to the Provincial Archives of Alberta Reference Library.
