  • 1919

The fonds consists of 7 photographs, copies of originals taken by O. C. Craswell, local photographer, of the visit of the Prince of Wales including the arrival, the parade, and the tree planting. Soldiers and other dignitaries are included in the images.

On 19 August 1919, Edward, Prince of Wales visited Prince Edward Island as part of his first tour of Canada. The visit was combined with a celebration of victory in World War I and "soldier joy days". Arriving at 10 a.m. the Prince was met at the main wharf in Charlottetown where he inspected the guard of honour. This was followed by a parade of returned veterans to the Legislative Building for the presentation of addresses to His Majesty. The parade reformed to march on to Victoria Park for the presentation of medals, followed by lunch at Prince of Wales College. The afternoon was given over to visits to a fox farm, the experimental farm, horse races, tree planting, and a garden party at Brighton Villa. The Prince departed at 6 p.m.
