Biographical history
Rupert Cement opened in 1950 and operated in various locations near the Canadian National Railway tracks and Government Grain Elevator in Prince Rupert. In 1965 the company came under new ownership and was located on the waterfront at Morse Creek. In September 1978, as a member of RivTow Straits Group, a new plant opened in the Industrial Park with a concrete batch plant. The new site allowed the company to accommodate all of the operations previously located on several small parcels of land. Larry Valentin was the manager of Rupert Cement and the facility was the first to be housed at the newly developed Industrial Park.
Custodial history
The records were donated to the archives by Larry Valentin on December 5, 2000.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of records from Rupert Cement Products. It includes textual records from the opening of the new concrete plant in 1978 such as an invitation, a message from the president of RivTwo Straits Cecil S. Cosulich, a booklet about the new facility, correspondence to the company, a pamphlet, photographs of the concrete batch plant, and newspaper clippings from the opening ceremonies.
