This collection consists of family and business records belonging to the Hilyards and related families. The business records of Thomas Hilyard and, after 1873, Hilyard Brothers include lumbering agreements, invoices, accounts, mortgages, deeds, shipbuilding agreements and a volume with shipping accounts, lists of vessels built and voyages made. There are also journals, day books and other accounting records of Thomas Hilyard and Hilyard Bros, a record of lumber sawn at Hilyard Bros., payroll and time books Material belonging to the Seeley family includes records about the ship "Australasian", bonds, agreements, deeds, invoices and receipts to Alexander McLachlan Seely from Saint John businesses, insurance documents, accounts and personal correspondence. There is also information about the Acadia College Endowment Fund and Leinster Street Baptist Church and an account book of Spring Dale Paper Mill, 1877.

There are also records relating to the Saint John harbour issue, 1885-1914, and documents about the ship "Magna Charta", 1865-1884. Invoices, accounts, workmen's accounts and other material belonging to the related McDonald and Roberts families are also included. There is an abstract book of surveyors' summaries of lumber transported by scow, 1897-1900, and a letter book of F.W. Holt (Saint John civil engineer), 1909-1913.

This collection consists of the correspondence relating to railway history involving requests for information on specific trains to/from George Brown. Some correspondence is printed with company letterhead. A few pieces of correspondence have documents attached which relate to railway history. There is a letter referring to a trip around the world by Nellie Bly, a New York City newspaper reporter with the remark that some portions of her trip were done by train.

This fonds contains the account books for George V. Beatteay's contract work. Some of the projects he worked on were: Quarantine Station on Partridge Island (ca. 1898-1900); Indiantown school; Immigrant building; M.R.A. warehouse; Wiggins Male Orphan Asylum; numerous personal dwellings; and the following vessels: Royal Oak, Skewsbury, Aclede, D.W. Clark, Annie F. McLeod, Jennie Clark, Iris, Olive, Lizzie, Crocus, Irish McLauglan, Ida E., Buckle, Rothesay Parole, Archille and Arnon.

This fonds contains the administrative records of Germain Street Baptist Church and of its groups and organizations. It consists of legal records (deeds, mortgages, bonds, wills, releases), membership lists, financial records (account book, 1882-1890; statements), and minutes of trustee meetings and congregational meetings.

Also included are marriage records of the Rev. Theldon S. Poole (1916-1946), records of burials (1916-1917), and Sunday school records (minutes of business meetings, membership rolls, annual reports). There are also copies of printed and published articles on the histories of Germain Street Baptist Church and Brussels Street Baptist Church, a souvenir programme of the 150th anniversary of the Germain Street church, a booklet or essay on a service of witness in Centenary United Church (Saint John), and images of the church organ.

Harold Wyndham Humphrey

This fonds consists of a diary, 1916-1918, with brief, matter-of-fact notes of life in camp in England and later in France during the First World War. There are also two notebooks from gunnery courses take by Humphrey. There is a file of correspondence sent to Humphrey while he was in charge of the welfare of some of the troops at Kimnel Park, including letters of complaint from soldiers and some correspondence about the relationships of enlisted men and British women. Humphrey's enlistment and other documents are also included.

Harriett B. Holman

This fonds consists of Mrs. Harriett Holman's notes for her address to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Natural History Society in 1954. It includes her reminiscences of the early days in the Ladies Auxiliary, beginning when she joined in 1892 and recalls how she became secretary-treasurer. There is information about membership fees, members, location and frequency of meetings, lectures and field trips. Also included are notes of Mrs. Holman's recollection of the Auxiliary's decision to pursue full membership in the Natural History Society. There are two poems, one each by Dr. and Mrs. G.F. Matthews, which have nature and science themes.
