History

The Sandon Archives is administered by the Sandon Historical Society, formed in 1978 to operate the Sandon Museum. Archival records have been acquired since the establishment of the Museum in 1972.

The holdings include photographs, maps, and other textual material relating to the history and development of Sandon and the surrounding area. One of the most important subjects documented by the collection is the industrial history of the Sandon area, including hydro-electric development, silver-lead mining, mine and mill technology, boom/bust cycles in a mining town and narrow gauge railways.
