History
Allan Arthur Spencer, 1906-1990, was born in England and came with his family to western Canada in 1912. The family returned to England during the First World War but returned to Pincher Creek, Alberta in 1918. They soon moved to Calgary where Allan's father, John A. Spencer, worked at Terrill's Greenhouses. Allan apprenticed as a sheet metal worker at the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) and worked his entire career at the Ogden Shops, except for service in the RCAF during the Second World War. He retired in 1971. He was an enthusiastic amateur historian and photographer. He and his wife had at least one child, Audrey (Schultz). They were close friends of Calgary Zoo curator Tom Baines.
