Biographical history

St. Ann's School opened in November 1886 in Juneau as part of the mission of the Sisters of St. Ann in southeastern Alaska. Boarders were also accepted for the school. The Sisters who taught at the school lived in the hospital building. Boarders lived in quarters made free by additions to the hospital property, until the boarding-school phased out. St. Ann's became a parochial school in 1917. When the Sisters withdrew from Juneau in 1968, the school closed. The building housed St. Ann's Day Care facility for a while. A new structure, St. Ann's Parish Center was dedicated in 1994 on the site of the old school.
