Biographical history

STOP (Students and Teachers Opposing Prejudice), is a volunteer student organization formed in 1987. The group was made up of students in an English 13 class at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in Red Deer, Alberta. Darren Lund taught the initial class, and served as faculty advisor for the group from 1987 to 2002. The aim of the group is to educate society, particularly youth, about the detrimental effects of prejudice within a community. STOP believes in the positive and beneficial influences that come about through cultural diversity. The group holds and sponsors various contests, dramatic presentations, and concerts to promote these ideals. Membership in STOP is temporary, every school year students fill various positions in the group. Students from other schools in Alberta have expressed interest in forming their own STOP group. STOP remains active in Red Deer and central Alberta.
