Custodial history
Scope and content
The fonds consists of dispatches from the United States Consulate in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from 1857 to 1906. The majority of this is correspondence between the Consuls in Charlottetown to the Secretary of State in Washington, D.C. Topics in the correspondence included detailed descriptions of PEI, requests to increase business in rural PEI ports, conflicts over fishing boundaries, and politics of the day revolving around such events as the Treaty of Washington in 1871. Also included are a list of arrivals and departures of American Vessels from PEI (1847-1859), a record of treasury fees for 1858, the imports and exports for PEI for 1860-1861, and the shipping records for 1859-1861.
