University of the Air

University of the air was a distance learning initiative started by CTV's regional television affiliates, to offer degree-related video courses, taught by University professors around the country. Production of University of the Air started in 1966, and continued until 1983. The University of the Air courses were structured into series, around a central theme, and divided into 5 episodes. This collection comprises four such series which were produced in atlantic Canada, and hosted by Dalhousie University Faculty. Series one is entitled "The Oceans", series two is "The Structure of Sound", series three is "20th Century Latin America: Why Revolution", and series four is "Textiles: Their Development and Effects".

Faculty of Medicine of Dalhousie University fonds

The fonds consists of records that document the administrative and operational activities of the Faculty of Medicine. These include general correspondence, minutes (faculty and departmental), financial records, reports, statistics, administrative relationships, program information, course materials, examination records, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, photographs as well as provide evidence of relationships with outside organizations.

Principally, the material is composed of records from the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Medicine. To facilitate access to the collection the materials have been organized into 17 different series.

Technical University of Nova Scotia fonds

Fonds consists of the records of the Technical University of Nova Scotia, predominanty from its first 40 years as the Nova Scotia Technical College and from its final decade before amalgamation with Dalhousie University.

College governance is well documented through the minutes and correspondence of the Board of Governors and the Senate, and the President’s records.

The administration of technical education courses in communities throughout Nova Scotia, 1907-1947, is minutely detailed in the records of the Director of Technical Education, as well as through the series of beautiful glass plate negatives of Technical Education classes.

The Public Relations office created files, photographs, sound and video recordings of events, faculty, staff and students of TUNS.

A selection of student records is available in the series of records from the Registrar’s Office; however access is restricted to protect privacy.

The development of the TUNS campus is well documented through construction photographs, aerial photographs, historical overviews, and files on land acquisition and renovations to historic buildings.

Lewis Jack's lecture notes on moral philosophy

Item is a bound book of lecture notes written as a series of consecutively numbered questions and answers on moral philosophy. The book was written during the 1838-1839 session of Professor Hercules Scott's lectures and contains 125 closely written pages.

Personal archives of Philip Girard

Accession comprises professional correspondence, administrative papers, research notes and secondary materials, lecture notes, typescripts, off prints, and reviews illustrating Girard's work as a legal scholar, writer and editor, and university professor. There are also records papers pertaining to his work in arbitration.

Fonds consists of records pertaining primarily to the professional activities of Elisabeth Mann Borgese, focusing on major organizations and projects with which she was affiliated from the beginning of her North American career in the 1940s. The collection includes correspondence, publications and drafts, administrative records, conference materials, sound and video recordings, research materials, photographs, and other materials.

This fonds consists of records related to Sandy Young’s academic research, interests, and teaching career which have a particular emphasis on sport and sport history in Nova Scotia and Canada.

The largest series in the fonds consists of student papers, most of which were written for Dr. Young’s leisure studies classes and contain information gleaned from student interviews with athletes. The fonds also contains official and personal correspondence; research notes; newspaper clippings primarily regarding Nova Scotia athletes; conference information; committee records; film and video recordings used for class instruction; magazines; programs from various sports associations and sport teams; publications which include many articles written by Young on Maritime sport history; sound recordings; slides dealing with international sports history used for teaching; photographs of mostly Nova Scotian or Canadian athletes; postcards; maps; and scrapbooks. The fonds also contains an assortment of artifacts and memorabilia related to Nova Scotia Olympian Aileen Meagher, including a track outfit, relay baton, and Olympic bronze medal certificate.
