History
Bradford Washburn was the leader of the National Geographic Society's Yukon Expedition which set out to explore and map areas in the southeastern corner of Alaska and the southwestern corner of the Yukon Territory. The expedition party made several reconnaissance flights over the St. Elias Range, and then crossed the mountain range with dog sleds. The expedition photographed many previously unknown glaciers and peaks.
