Scope and content

Fonds consists of records which document the teaching career of Samuel L. White, who taught school in the Stratford area from 1866 to 1881.

Included in these records are five teaching certificates dated from 1863 to 1868, letters of reference dated from 1866 to 1881, and his receipts for contributions to the Superannuated Teachers' Fund from 1873 to 1882.

Fonds also includes records for Samuel Alexander White, including two of his teacher training notebooks from when he attended Brampton Model School, ca. 1903. In addition, there are several miscellaneous items kept by Samuel A., including courses of study and examination schedules (1896-1931).

Fonds also consists of 13 photographs probably dating from between 1890 and 1910. These photographs show scenes in Peel County including plowing, ice harvesting and skating. Samuel Alexander White of Snelgrove, Ont., wrote inscriptions on the backs on the photographs, which identify the locations and the people in the images.
