Biographical history
William Howard Cleland arrived in Invermere, B.C., in 1910. He had many business interests in the community, and acted as personal secretary to R. Randolph Bruce, who was at various times President of the Columbia Valley Irrigated Fruitlands Company, owner of Paradise Mines and other mining companies, Lieutenant Governor of B.C., and Canadian Ambassador to Japan.

The fonds consists of records of the business activities of Cleland. The fonds includes certificates of incorporation, memoranda of association and various leases, certificates, deeds, conveyances, indenture, affidavits, and crown grants of the Hotel Invermere and Windermere Orchards Ltd. Fonds also includes correspondence, agreements and reports of Lake Windermere Creamery and the Invermere Power Company, as well as various reference files.
