Biographical history
William Lewis arrived in Nanaimo in 1875. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Ashlar Lodge (Freemasons), Rotary Club, Native Sons and the Nanaimo Historical Society. He worked as a clerk in several general stores, and then joined the Nanaimo Electric Light and Power Company in 1897, where he worked as secretary and manager until he retired in 1931.

The fonds consists of legal documents relating to property in Newcastle Townsite purchased by Lewis in 1912; correspondence; and memorabilia, including scrapbooks, guestbook, and two transcripts of interviews with William Barraclough in 1962 and 1963.
