Biographical history

William McGregor was born in Nanaimo in 1911. He worked as a lineman for the power company and was also a taxi driver. McGregor was also a City Councillor for 10 years. McGregor's father, John Charles (Jack), was one of several local men who made their way to the Yukon during the Klondyke.; Gold Rush.

Custodial history

The volume was deposited at the City Archives Vault at an unknown date. It was transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives in 1992 but remains in the legal custody of the City. Both McGregors were involved in local politics which may explain why the volume was in the City Vault.

Scope and content

Fonds consists a scrapbook containing McGregor and Meakin family souvenirs, including newspaper clippings, audited accounts of the City of Nanaimo, placer mining licenses and a photograph of the Nanaimo gold mining training camp. A transcript of the journal is available in the Pamphlet file.
