Biographical history

Joseph Willis was born on October 21 1877 in Northumberland, England. He married Ann Appleby on October 1, 1903 at Seghill County, Northumberland. Willis arrived in Nanaimo around 1910. His wife and daughters Nancy (born 1904) and Edna Mary (born 1906) arrived in 1913. Willis was employed by the Western Fuel Corporation as an engineer. The family lived at 14 Gillespie Street for many years. Joseph died in 1946, Ann died in 1957.

Fonds consists of personal papers of the Willis family. Includes two agreements for sale for Section B of Lot 11, Block E, Nanaimo (1918, 1920), insurance papers, stock certificates, receipts from Acme Motors and correspondence related to the estate of Joseph Willis (1947).
