104th Anti-tank Battery, 7th Anti-Tank Regiment RCA collection

This fonds consists primarily of histories of the 104th Anti-Tank Battery and the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery and supporting materials. Included are a printed history of the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment, a photocopied history of the 104th Battery dating to 1945, and photocopied listings of officers and other ranks, along with the names of fatal casualties, their dates of death, and the names of those wounded in action.

Also included is a b&w group photograph of the 104th Anti-Tank Battery (1940), a colour photograph of the formation flashes and other distinguishing insignia of the Canadian Army [after 1939], colour negatives of the 104th Battery at the Experimental Station (Fredericton), and colour negatives of shoulder flashes of the Canadian Military.

Fonds consists of Photocopies of photographs: Saint John and Sussex Detachments of 2nd Contingent. Hussar Officers of the 26th Battalion in 1914. Regiment training at Valcartier and staff at Shorncliffe. Also includes an original bound copy of Records of Service for 1910-1920. 5 photocopied pages of General Orders for Tank battalion and Machine gun corps, one photocopy of General Orders 1918 re organization of Canadian Tank Corps. Also includes a pamphlet of Canadian Cavalry Association By-laws. One page photocopied from Canada Gazette listing Appointments, Promotions and Retirements in 1918.
Photograph of Canadian Army setting sail October 1914. Included are photographs of officers and men and a photograph of regimental Billets in Belgium, 1915. One pamphlet on the Vimy Ridge Memorial. Cablegram and postcard from J.A. Bain which includes his pay book and service book from 1917. Typed copies of letters written by soldiers, together in a binder. Original Certificates, pay book, berthing card and 2 handwritten notebooks from Sgt. R J Stapleford which includes numerous photographs acquired by him. A original copy of cartoons from the "Bystanders Fragments from France" and a copy of the story of the Fourth Overseas Siege Battery from 1914-1919.

8th Princess Louise (NB) Hussars fonds

The fonds consists of militia service rolls for the years 1893, 1896, 1900 and 1912 for Westmorland County. The service rolls for the years 1893, 1896, and 1912 include the recruits' age, place of residence, and date of enlistment. The 1900 roll is incomplete and provides only the men's names and corresponding rank.

The fonds also contains photocopies of issues of "The 8th Hussar" newsletter, published weekly by the 8th Princess Louise (NB) Hussars (Vol. 1, #1, 26 August 1945 – Vol. 1, #14, 24 November 1945 inclusive).

Albert M. Belding

This fonds consists of the literary, political, and personal records of Albert M. Belding. It contains correspondence relating to Belding's involvement with the Board of Trade and the Maritime Rights Movement; family and personal correspondence; published, printed, or draft articles, poems, and essays written by Belding, notably one on the subject of Saint John as a winter port; rough notes and research materials; and copies of printed or published articles by others on historical and economic themes.
There is also material on the Boys and Girls Club, the Canadian Authors' Association, Children's Aid Society, the Every Day Club, the Rotary Club, the Mahaney quadruplets, the Pearson family, the Union of New Brunswick Municipalities, Belding's naming as a Member of the Order of the British Empire, and on his trip to the West Indies as a member of the Board of Trade. Also included are newspaper clippings relating to the Spanish War and the First World War (recruiting, training, combat) and a scrapbook of clippings of Beldings column "As Hiram Sees It".

Lastly the fonds contains a few photographs, personal letters written to members of the Belding family other than Albert M., and letters written by Elmer Belding to his family between 1915 and 1919 when he was overseas during World War I. Elmer accounts of his experiences are detailed and give a vivid picture of military life. Albert Belding published some of these letters in the newspaper.

Arthur Maxwell Fisher

Fonds consists of Arthur M. Fisher's school diploma, World War I related news clippings, postcards, photographs of Fisher as a soldier in the First World War (all informal poses), and a scrapbook containing social memorabilia. There is also correpondence about Fisher's death; a 1925 letter regarding Fisher's decoration received by Mildred Fisher; and a book, The War Graves of the British Empire, containing brief biographical information on Arthur Fisher.

Bertha L. Gregory fonds

Bertha Gregory's journal offers details of her work at the port of Saint John during the winters of 1920-1921 and 1921-1922, particularly with respect to the Red Cross nursery located in the immigration building, Saint John West. She records names of ships arriving; the number of adults, children, and infants aboard; and the ministrations performed.

A number of photographs depicting places and people she worked or served with during her 1919 trip West on Red Cross Train Service for soldiers' dependants, are pasted on several journal pages. Also pasted inside the journal are photographs of Bertha Gregory, her assistants, acquaintances, groups of immigrants, and immigrant children, as well as newspaper clippings, a Canadian Red Cross Society report, and a few letters all relating to her work as a port nurse at Saint John or Québec. There are also samples of Red Cross information cards, in several different languages, which were distributed to arriving immigrants to assist them in locating health care for their families.

The fonds also includes one list each of medical supplies and nursery supplies, several summaries of work performed, several articles about the port nursery, and a pamphlet offering detailed instructions to nurses serving on trains under the Canadian Red Cross Society. A number of newspaper clippings providing biographical information on family members, notably, Bertha L. Gregory; her sisters, Lyla and Clara; her mother, Henrietta; and her grandmother, Susan, are included in the fonds.

Eleven photographs of Bertha Gregory, of the immigrant room and nursery at Saint John (1920s), of Halifax following the explosion (1917), and of Bertha en route to western Canada (1919) accompanied this fonds. They are located in P357 (nos. 25-35).
